RAPING HARRIET TUBMAN
I was reading my Twitter feed last night, when I came across this hash tag:
Yeah. That was same thing I said.
Apparently, Def Jam Records founder and Def Comedy Jam creator Russell Simmons recently launched a YouTube channel called All Def Digital – ADD for short (how apropos), and the first order of business – it would seem – was to create a Harriet Tubman parody video that depicts “The Woman Called Moses” NOT AS A FREEDOM FIGHTER WHO RISKED HER LIFE NUMEROUS TIMES IN ORDER TO HELP EMANCIPATE HER PEOPLE, but instead as a WHORE who traded sexual favors with “Massa” in order to blackmail him into “allowing” her to build the Underground Railroad.
I tried to find the offensive video online, because a part of me was – believe it or not – actually shocked that these “Negro Crackers” could possibly sink any lower than when Jay-Z called Harry Belafonte a “boy” for having the AUDACITY to CHECK him AND his wife on their selfishness, greed, and irresponsibility.
By the time I made it to YouTube, the video had already been taken down.
However, not before some of Black Twitter had seen it, and were able to share the way in which Simmons and his crew debased one of African America’s GREATEST heroes.
This Tweet pretty much gives you the gist of the so-called comedy skit:
“All these years I’ve been actin’ like I didn’t love our special time together but tonight that’s all gonna be different” #HarrietTubmanRapeTape
This apparently is what actress Shanna Malcolm, in “character” as Harriet Tubman, said to her white male slave owner, before they started having rape-sex.
Maybe it’s a good thing I didn’t see the skit. I already feel like I need a shower and a rape kit just thinking about it.
Black Twitter quickly took ADD and Simmons to task for their disrespect.
Here’s a sampling of the responses:
“RT @Vivaciously_Val: you have to be on some serious black women hate to demean an icon like Harriet Tubman like this #HarrietTubmanRapeTape”
“I’m scared to go back to sleep [to be honest]. When you wake up to a #HarrietTubmanRapeTape I’m not sure sleep is a priority anymore at this point.”
“Damn @shannamalcolm, a #HarrietTubmanRapeTape? That’s what’s hot in the streets? How much they pay u to publicly demean our ancestor?”
“Oh u thought uncle rush was conscious [because] he rocked a hoodie for Trayvon & blasted Don Lemon? How’s that working for u? #HarrietTubmanSexTape”
“I wonder if we expect too much from a dude who peddles unsecured credit cards to poor folks. Then again @unclerush #HarrietTubmanSexTape”
But here is probably one of the best tweets in the bunch, courtesy of screenwriter @Eric_Haywood:
“The #HarrietTubmanSexTape fauxpology kinda has an ‘I pulled the video cause y’all just don’t understand good comedy!’ vibe to it, @unclerush.”
